The story

Sony’s PlayStation 2 launched in Japan on March 4, 2000. This date is the Japanese launch, not a worldwide release date. The platform combined games on optical discs with DVD movie playback and support for original PlayStation software.

Original and slim hardware families include multiple revisions. The exact model matters when choosing power hardware, accessories, or a display connection. Use the model label and its manual as the starting point for an individual console.
