Privacy Policy
What Joking Joystick collects, why it is used, and how to request access or deletion.
This policy describes the launch website at JokingJoystick.com. “Joking Joystick,” “we,” and “our” refer to the publication operating this site. Contact us through the contact form with “Privacy” in the subject for questions or requests.
Information you provide
If you register, we store the account information needed to provide the service, including username, display name, email, a password hash, verification status, and account preferences. Profile details you choose to enter, such as a biography, are also stored. Do not put sensitive personal information into a public-facing name or profile field.
Newsletter requests include your email, subscription status, confirmation and unsubscribe records, request source, and timestamps. Contact messages include the name, email, subject, and message you submit. We use these details to operate the requested feature, respond to you, and maintain relevant records. Sending a contact message does not subscribe you to promotional email.
Technical and security information
Like other websites, our server receives connection information such as an IP address, requested URL, browser information, and request time. Hosting access and error logs may contain this information. We use security controls to limit abuse of registration, login, and forms.
The site uses a first-party session cookie for sign-in state and form security. Our article-view counter derives a keyed, daily identifier from IP address and browser information to limit duplicate counts. That identifier is pseudonymous, not a claim of complete anonymity. It is used for site readership counts rather than an advertising profile.
Cookies, choices, and third-party services
Necessary session functions support the service you request. Cookie choices and interface preferences may be stored in your browser. Optional third-party analytics and advertising are disabled at launch; if configured later, the site’s consent controls are intended to keep those optional scripts off until you opt in. You can revisit Cookie settings to change optional choices. See the cookie policy.
Protected forms use Google reCAPTCHA after the security check is enabled in that flow. Google receives information needed to assess automated activity, and its service may set cookies. Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to that processing. If a security check prevents use of a feature, describe the issue in a contact request when possible.
Service providers and disclosure
Hosting and configured email-delivery providers process information necessary to operate the site and send requested account or subscription messages. Information may also be disclosed when necessary to address fraud, protect the service, respond to a lawful requirement, or resolve a request. We do not operate a sale of personal information or targeted-advertising program at launch.
Public pages link to other websites. Those sites have their own practices, and this policy does not control information you provide after leaving Joking Joystick.
Retention and your choices
Account information is retained while needed to provide the account. You can update account information and request account deletion through the account area. Newsletter subscription is separate: use its unsubscribe link or contact us to stop updates. We may retain a suppression record to avoid sending unwanted email.
Contact, security, and operational records are retained as needed for their purpose, issue resolution, and applicable obligations; deletion from active systems may not immediately remove a record from protected backups. We do not promise that a deletion request erases every historic log instantly.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent. Submit a request through the contact form. We may need proportionate verification before disclosing or changing personal information. You may also raise concerns with your relevant privacy authority.
Children and changes
The account and newsletter features are not designed to collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can investigate and address it. We may update this policy when site practices change, with material changes reflected on this page.
