Nintendo 64 launched in Japan on June 23, 1996, according to Nintendo’s company history. The date shown here refers to Japan. Games use cartridges, and save arrangements depend on the game.

Nintendo’s accessory reference distinguishes the Controller Pak used by some games for saving, the Rumble Pak, and the console’s Expansion Pak. Check the original manual of a game before deciding which accessories your setup needs.

A secondhand purchase should include a real controller demonstration, a compatible power supply, and a proven video connection. If original packaging is part of your collecting goal, keep its condition and completeness separate from whether the hardware currently works.
