Jay and Silent Bob’s Joint Venture is taking the tranquil rhythms of a farming simulator in a decidedly less tranquil direction. Nitrate Games has revealed first footage and new details for the upcoming game, which puts Kevin Smith’s long-running Jay and Silent Bob characters in charge of building, cultivating and expanding a cannabis-growing operation.

The premise is knowingly at odds with the usually mellow “cozy farming” label. The game is positioned as a comic, adult-oriented spin on the genre, but its central loop is still rooted in recognizable management-sim ideas: establish an operation, grow it, and expand it over time. The major differentiator is that the farm is also a vehicle for an original story set among characters from Smith’s View Askewniverse.

Nitrate Games expects Joint Venture to arrive in late spring 2027 for Steam on PC. A console release is planned for 2027 as well, although the platforms and a more exact release window have not been specified. The project is moving toward playtesting, so fans can sign up to participate and wishlist the game while development continues.

A farming game framed as a View Askewniverse sequel

The most significant detail is not simply that Jay and Silent Bob headline another game. Nitrate Games co-founder Montana Sommese describes Joint Venture as a continuation of the View Askewniverse, with its central narrative picking up after the films. That makes the project a story sequel in addition to a genre experiment.

“View Askewniverse” is the shared fictional setting associated with Smith’s films and their recurring cast of characters. In practical game terms, the label suggests that relationship-building and story encounters will carry more weight than a simple cameo checklist. The developer says players will be able to befriend and engage with familiar characters, while the studio has also indicated that future updates could extend the narrative beyond the game’s initial story.

That latter point is worth separating from what is confirmed at launch. Narrative updates are described as a development ambition, not as a detailed post-release roadmap. No schedule, number of updates, or specific story additions has been announced. Still, the approach gives Nitrate a way to treat the game as an evolving corner of the film universe rather than a one-off licensed gag.

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes have been creatively involved from the beginning, while the original game story is being written by Ernie Altbacker, whose credits include the animated films Batman: Hush and Justice League Dark. Smith’s own reaction leaned directly into the project’s intentionally broad wordplay, joking about Jay and Silent Bob’s starring role and nodding to the farming-sim tradition the game is remixing.

Who is confirmed to appear?

The announced character list reaches across several View Askewniverse films. From Clerks, players can expect Dante, Randal and Veronica. Mallrats contributes Brodie and T.S. Quint, while Chasing Amy characters Holden, Banky, Hooper and Alyssa are also named.

Related coverage includes Jay and Silent Bob's Joint Venture Brings View Askewniverse Comedy to a Weed Farming Sim.

The revealed lineup additionally includes Azrael and Serendipity from Dogma, Becky and Elias from Clerks II, and Mooby. The range matters because it establishes that Joint Venture is drawing from more than the immediate Jay and Silent Bob orbit. It also gives the game potential to make social interactions part of its progression structure rather than merely decorating the farm with recognizable faces.

Exactly how those interactions work has not been detailed. There is no confirmed breakdown of friendship systems, dialogue choices, missions, romance mechanics, staffing, crop varieties, economy systems, or the degree to which characters affect the business. Players should therefore avoid reading the announced cast as proof of any particular gameplay mechanic. What is established is that familiar figures will be present and that befriending and engaging with them is part of the game’s stated pitch.

What “cozy farming sim” means here—and what remains unknown

A farming simulator generally centers on a repeatable cycle of preparing a space, cultivating resources and reinvesting the results into larger capabilities. In Joint Venture, the developer has specifically confirmed building, cultivating and expanding an operation. Those are the reliable pillars of the game so far.

“Cozy” usually describes a low-pressure, routine-driven style of game built around steady personal progress, exploration or social connections. Joint Venture appears to borrow that foundational structure while using Jay and Silent Bob’s raunchier comic tone. Whether the finished game remains relaxed in pace, introduces stricter management demands, or swings heavily toward scripted comedy is not yet clear from the revealed details.

Likewise, “playtesting” should not be confused with a release date or a finished public demo. It is a testing stage in which developers gather feedback and identify issues before launch. Nitrate Games is heading toward that phase, but it has not announced when testing begins, how many players may be included, or what portion of the game testers will see.

For PC players, Steam is the only confirmed storefront/platform at present. Those looking for broader PC context can also follow recent Steam-focused PC coverage, though no connection between that game and Joint Venture has been announced.

The practical implications for fans

For viewers who primarily know Jay and Silent Bob from film, the key expectation to set is that this is not being presented as a direct adaptation of one specific movie. The developers are framing it as a new chapter, using the farming operation as the setting through which players encounter a broad selection of the shared universe’s characters.

For farming-sim players, the draw is less about a newly detailed set of systems than it is about tone and fiction. The announced loop—build, cultivate, expand—will sound familiar. The unresolved question is how deeply the game develops those systems and how tightly they interlock with Altbacker’s original storyline. The first footage establishes the project’s existence and direction, but the information currently available does not support firm claims about its depth or day-to-day play cadence.

The announced 2027 schedule also leaves room for the game’s public identity to evolve during playtesting. For now, the clearest picture is a Steam-bound farming sim with a late-spring 2027 target, a console version expected later in the same year, Jay and Silent Bob at its center, and an unusually expansive roster of View Askewniverse guests intended to make the operation feel like part of a continuing story.
