Hunting Simulator 3 is expected to launch on October 29, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. A newly released gameplay trailer offers the latest look at the third entry in the hunting series, while Standard and Deluxe editions are now available to pre-order.

The central promise is a broader simulation layer called SimFauna. Rather than treating animals as isolated encounters placed around a map, the system is intended to create a dynamic ecosystem in which animals reproduce, age and respond to both their surroundings and player actions. The result, in theory, is that a trip through the same territory may not play out identically every time.

That ambition will unfold across Colorado and Texas, two American settings with open maps measuring 100 km² each. More than 35 animal species are planned, alongside nearly 75 weapons and accessories based on equipment from brands including Remington, Beretta, Winchester and Browning. Players will also be able to use officially licensed all-terrain vehicles from Ford, Kawasaki and Polaris.

SimFauna is the game’s biggest new idea

“Dynamic ecosystem” can be a broad marketing term, so the details provided for SimFauna matter. The stated behaviors are reproduction, aging and natural reactions to conditions in the world and to player activity. In practical terms, those are the components that could make wildlife patterns less fixed than they would be in a game built around static animal placements.

Reproduction refers to animals producing offspring within the simulated ecosystem. Aging means an animal population is not necessarily frozen at one life stage. And reacting to the environment and player actions suggests that behavior may change based on what happens around the animals, rather than every encounter following a fully predetermined routine.

The important caveat is that the available details do not explain the precise rules behind those systems. It remains unclear, for example, how persistent the ecosystem will be, exactly which player actions have consequences, or how changes to a population will be communicated to players. Those questions will matter for anyone deciding whether to pre-order on the strength of the simulation pitch.

Still, SimFauna gives Hunting Simulator 3 a clear design focus. Hunting games are often judged on their spaces, equipment and animal behavior, but a population that changes over time could connect those pieces. Map knowledge may remain valuable, yet predictable routes and repeatable outcomes could be less reliable if the ecosystem works as described.

Colorado and Texas provide two large territories

The game’s two announced locations are Colorado and Texas, with each open map covering 100 km². That makes the world design a substantial part of the experience: reaching an area, scouting it and deciding how to travel are likely to be as relevant as the gear selected for a hunt.

Five licensed all-terrain vehicles are planned, drawn from Ford, Kawasaki and Polaris. An all-terrain vehicle, or ATV, is a vehicle designed to travel over varied ground rather than ordinary paved roads. In a game with territories of this scale, vehicles should offer an alternative to covering long distances on foot. The announcement does not specify individual vehicle models, handling differences or whether vehicle choice changes gameplay performance, so those remain open details.

More than 35 animal species are planned across the two territories. The number establishes the intended variety, although no full species list has been provided. Likewise, the game has not yet outlined how every species will interact with SimFauna or whether the two maps will support different ecological rules. The gameplay trailer is therefore a useful visual introduction, but not a complete mechanical breakdown.

For players interested in other upcoming PC projects, Joking Joystick has also covered the Main Sequence Steam playtest, another example of how a game’s systems can be as important as its setting.

Dogs arrive as companions for the first time in the series

Hunting Simulator 3 will introduce multiple hunting dog breeds to the franchise for the first time. Each breed is said to have its own behavior and skills, which suggests the companion is intended to be more than a cosmetic follower. One breed will be included at launch, while additional breeds are planned in a free update after release.

The announcement does not identify the launch breed as part of the base game. However, the American Foxhound is included among the pre-order bonuses. It is therefore important to separate the general launch companion plan from the edition-specific pre-order content: one dog breed is set for launch, while the Foxhound is listed as a bonus for players who pre-order.

Dogs could become an important decision point if their differing skills meaningfully affect how players approach the world. The exact commands, tracking functions and breed-specific advantages have not been detailed, so it is too early to draw firm conclusions about their role. What is confirmed is the broader direction: the series is adding animal companions with designed behavioral differences, and more breeds are scheduled to arrive after launch without an additional charge.

Weapons, equipment and edition differences

The equipment list includes nearly 75 weapons and accessories modeled from prominent firearms brands. Remington, Beretta, Winchester and Browning are among those named. “Modeled from” indicates the game is using recognizable branded equipment as a basis; it does not, by itself, describe every weapon’s statistics, attachment options or progression requirements.

There are two announced purchase options: a Standard edition and a Deluxe edition called Apex Predator. Both are eligible for the listed pre-order bonuses:

  • Winchester 1892 rifle
  • American Foxhound hunting dog
  • Woolchap hat from ProHunt

The Apex Predator edition adds further content: two Remington weapons, dog accessories, hunting accessories, a Polaris UTV and hunting-lodge customization tools. A UTV, or utility task vehicle, is generally a larger side-by-side off-road vehicle; here, the Polaris UTV is an edition-specific item rather than one of the broadly announced five licensed ATVs.

The hunting-lodge tools point to a customization component, although the scope is not specified. It is not yet known whether customization is solely cosmetic, how extensive it will be, or whether it connects to progression. Players who care mainly about the core maps, wildlife systems and basic equipment should note that the announcement has not described any gameplay advantage attached to the Deluxe extras beyond their inclusion as additional items.

What is confirmed—and what remains to be seen

There is a solid outline of the package: two 100 km² American maps, more than 35 species, a simulation system that accounts for animal reproduction and aging, nearly 75 weapons and accessories, licensed off-road transport, and canine companions. Unreal Engine 5 is the technology named for development. The engine reference identifies the game’s underlying development technology, but it does not guarantee a particular visual feature or performance result on any platform.

Several major specifics are still unconfirmed in the available information. There is no full breakdown of the animal roster, no detailed explanation of weapon handling, no complete list of the five vehicles, and no precise schedule for the free dog-breed update. The content of Standard versus Deluxe is clear at a high level, but no price information is provided here. Nor are technical targets, multiplayer details or a platform-by-platform performance profile.

That means the trailer and announcement are best read as a statement of priorities rather than a final feature manual. The developers are emphasizing scale, changing wildlife behavior, branded hunting equipment, transport and a new companion system. The eventual question will be how closely those systems interact: whether dogs, vehicles, equipment choices and SimFauna create distinct hunting situations instead of a collection of separate checkboxes.

Hunting Simulator 3 is the third game in a franchise that has reached more than 2 million players worldwide. With pre-orders open and an expected October 29, 2026 release date on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, the next updates will be most useful if they clarify the day-to-day effects of SimFauna and the practical differences between the game’s dogs, vehicles and gear.
