Locked doors start mattering early in Control Resonant. During the escape from the Oldest House, Dylan can pass plenty of doors that display a clearance requirement without having the card needed to open them. That is intentional: the game’s clearance system is a progression gate, meaning access expands as story missions and optional quests award new credentials.

There are five obtainable keycards. Two arrive through the main story, while three are tied to side-quest progress, including one that only becomes available after the main story is complete. The important practical point is that a door seen before its matching card is not necessarily a permanent miss. Return trips are part of the structure here.

This guide lists every card, the quest that leads to it, and the exact moment to watch for. It also clears up the potentially confusing Level 18 doors: Dylan does not receive a Level 18 keycard.

Every obtainable Clearance Keycard in Control Resonant

Level 1 Keycard

Where it comes from: Central Field Office
Quest: The West Incursion Zone Resonant
Requirement: Speak with Zoe at the Watchtower for the first time.

The Level 1 card is part of the early critical path. After Dylan’s first conversation with Zoe in the Watchtower, The West Incursion Zone Resonant is given automatically. Continue that story quest into the Central Field Office, where the card is awarded.

Because this is not an optional pickup, there is no need to comb the opening area for a hidden route before advancing. The main value of the Level 1 card is that it establishes the game’s pattern: earlier clearance-marked doors can be revisited once Dylan’s authorization improves.

Level 2 Keycard

Where it comes from: Evacuation Zone Evac Building
Quest: Evacuation Procedures
Given by: Arish

The second numbered card is also a main-story reward. During Evacuation Procedures, find Arish in the Evacuation Zone’s Evac Building. He gives Dylan the Level 2 Keycard.

This is another straightforward progression reward rather than a collectible hidden off the route. If you are attempting to enter a Level 2 door before reaching this point, pushing forward with the central story is the solution. Once it is in hand, make a mental note of the early doors that specifically displayed the Level 2 requirement; those are the most logical spots to revisit first.

Level 6 Keycard

Where it comes from: A research station in The Park
Quest: New Growth
Requirement: Complete the main story, then speak with Zoe at the Watchtower.

The Level 6 Keycard is the major exception to the early-game rhythm. It cannot be collected during the main campaign. After completing the main story, return to Zoe in the Watchtower to receive the side quest New Growth.

Follow New Growth until its objective reads Investigate Underhill’s Last Known Location. That step directs Dylan to a research station in The Park, and the Level 6 Clearance Keycard is there.

“Post-story” is the key phrase. If a Level 6 lock is blocking you before the credits, there is no earlier detour or alternate numbered keycard to hunt down. Finish the main story, pick up New Growth from Zoe, and then follow the quest’s lead to Underhill’s last known location.

Mobile Research Station Keycard

Where it comes from: Central Dig Site Threshold
Quest: Crossing the Threshold
How to begin: Find a body in a garage west of the Central Field Office.

The Mobile Research Station Keycard is quest-driven, but its opening trigger is easy to overlook because it begins with a discovery rather than an automatically assigned main mission. Search the garage west of the Central Field Office and examine the body there. Doing so starts Crossing the Threshold.

Continue the quest until it leads to the Central Dig Site Threshold. In the marked yellow square, investigate the body to take the Mobile Research Station Keycard.

The wording matters here: the garage body starts the quest, but it is not the body that provides the card. The keycard itself is recovered later, at the Central Dig Site Threshold. If you have already found the garage body and are wondering why no credential appeared in your inventory, keep following Crossing the Threshold rather than returning to the garage.

Oldest House Storage Room Keycard (SR)

Where it comes from: Near the Panopticon
Quest: The Complete Set
How to begin: Museum of Curiosities in the West Incursion Zone
Given by: Langston

The final obtainable credential is the Oldest House Storage Room Keycard, abbreviated as the SR Keycard. Start by visiting the Museum of Curiosities in the West Incursion Zone, where The Complete Set begins.

Advance through the side quest until Langston gives Dylan the SR Keycard next to the Panopticon. Unlike the Mobile Research Station card, there is no separate search instruction at the end of this route: the credential is handed over during the mission.

Since the quest starts at a named point of interest rather than through the main-story chain, players looking to finish their access options should make a specific trip to the Museum of Curiosities. The West Incursion Zone is already relevant to the Level 1 progression quest, but The Complete Set is its own optional thread.

Keycard checklist and fastest way to plan your returns

  • Level 1: Complete The West Incursion Zone Resonant after first speaking to Zoe at the Watchtower; collect it in the Central Field Office.
  • Level 2: Receive it from Arish during Evacuation Procedures in the Evacuation Zone Evac Building.
  • Level 6: Finish the main story, accept New Growth from Zoe, and follow it to the research station in The Park.
  • Mobile Research Station: Examine the garage body west of the Central Field Office to begin Crossing the Threshold; take the card from the body in the yellow-marked area at Central Dig Site Threshold.
  • SR: Begin The Complete Set at the Museum of Curiosities in the West Incursion Zone; Langston provides it near the Panopticon.

A clean way to handle the system is to separate it into story credentials and side-quest credentials. The Level 1 and Level 2 cards are earned simply by continuing the main story. The Mobile Research Station and SR cards require deliberately engaging with optional quest starters. Level 6 requires both campaign completion and a post-story conversation with Zoe.

That distinction can prevent wasted time. A lock is not automatically a signal that its key is nearby. In this case, its associated key might be a later story reward, a side-quest payoff, or a post-story item. When a locked door has no obvious route around it, record its location and its clearance label, then continue with the appropriate quest path instead of repeatedly searching the immediate area.

Can Dylan open Level 18 doors?

No obtainable keycard lets Dylan open Clearance Level 18 doors.

Level 18 doors appear in multiple places across Control Resonant, but Dylan is never awarded a matching Level 18 credential. In the cases where a Level 18 door does open, an NPC with their own clearance handles it. Other Level 18 doors appear to remain closed.

This means Level 18 should not be treated as a sixth keycard missing from the list. It is instead a boundary of Dylan’s access within the game as described here. Searching for a secret Level 18 card, or saving an unexplained Level 18 door for a hypothetical later clearance upgrade, is unlikely to produce a result.

It is a useful example of the difference between a door requirement and a player unlock. A requirement displayed on a door tells you what authorization that door recognizes; it does not guarantee that the player character can acquire that authorization. For the five cards above, Dylan can obtain the required credential. Level 18 does not follow that rule.

What the clearance system means for exploration

Control Resonant’s cards function as access milestones rather than a linear set of levels from 1 upward. The available set includes Level 1, Level 2, Level 6, the Mobile Research Station credential, and the Oldest House Storage Room credential. The named cards are therefore just as important as numbered levels: a door can be tied to a location or organization rather than a conventional numeric clearance tier.

For explorers, the practical takeaway is simple: revisit previously inaccessible areas after receiving each new credential, but reserve expectations for the cards that actually exist. Early Oldest House doors can be revisited after the story advances; optional paths open through Crossing the Threshold and The Complete Set; and The Park becomes relevant after the main story through New Growth. Level 18 doors, meanwhile, are not part of Dylan’s five-card acquisition route.

That structure fits the broader appeal of spaces built around limited access and delayed returns. As with the tension discussed in systems that turn restricted movement into suspense, a sealed passage can shape how players read an environment even before it becomes traversable. Here, the important part is knowing which sealed passages are future objectives and which ones are simply not Dylan’s to open.
