Support for Nintendo Switch firmware 23.0.0

Lockpick RCM Pro version 2.2.0 adds support for Nintendo Switch system software 23.0.0. The release was published on September 17, 2026. Its release notes identify this firmware compatibility update as the only specific change in the build, so there are no additional performance, interface, or backup-format changes to report.

The update is intended for users running the payload on a Switch with firmware 23.0.0 installed. Lockpick RCM Pro is a boot-time payload rather than an application launched after Horizon OS starts.

A boot-time utility for keys and PRODINFO

Lockpick RCM Pro runs in the Nintendo Switch’s boot-time environment and extracts console encryption keys for use with file-handling software such as hactool and hactoolnet/LibHac. According to the project documentation, changes introduced in firmware 7.0.0 and later prevent the regular Lockpick homebrew from deriving the newest keys, while the boot-time process remains able to perform that task.

The utility also creates backups of the console’s PRODINFO data. Its documented output includes a Hekate-compatible encrypted partition backup, encrypted and decrypted PRODINFO archives, and device-specific folders based on the eMMC identifier. PRODINFO contains unique calibration data and certificates, so these files should be treated as sensitive personal backups and stored securely.

Documented storage and screenshot features

The payload saves production keys and title keys under the Switch directory, alongside the PRODINFO backup files. Older backups in the Switch directory can be migrated automatically into the device-separated backup structure. The project also supports screenshots of its interface, saving timestamped BMP files to the Switch storage. Simultaneously pressing the volume-up and volume-down buttons captures menu screens, while the volume-up button can capture the screen after key extraction.

For improved performance, particularly when dumping title keys, the project recommends placing the Minerva component from Hekate on the console’s SD card. This is an optional performance aid documented by the project.

Mariko-specific key material

The README also documents additional key material associated with Mariko hardware, including Switch V2 and Lite models. Extracting some of those keys involves the partial AES key data produced on the console and a separate brute-force utility on a computer. These details are part of the project’s broader documentation and are not identified as changes in version 2.2.0.

Lockpick RCM Pro is based on Lockpick RCMaster and incorporates work from the wider Switch homebrew community, including Hekate and the Atmosphère project. Version 2.2.0’s documented focus is firmware support: it keeps the boot-time key-extraction and PRODINFO backup workflow usable on Nintendo Switch firmware 23.0.0.
