A more capable Android PS3 emulator build
ARMSX3 1.3.1 was released on October 19, 2026, as an Android build based on the RPCS3 codebase. This version focuses on practical game support, graphics-memory behavior, per-game configuration and clearer GPU-driver feedback.
The release is available in several arm64 APK variants, including packages for different Android SDK levels and a legacy armv8.1 option. ARMSX3 requires PlayStation 3 firmware to run, and that firmware is not included with the project.
Blitz: The League II now installs and plays
The most substantial game-specific change is support for Blitz: The League II. ARMSX3 now enables everything the game needs automatically, allowing it to install and play according to the release notes. The update also includes an RPCS3 fix credited to elad335.
This is useful for players who previously had to identify and configure special emulator options themselves. With the required settings enabled automatically for this title, the game can use its dedicated configuration without requiring those options to affect other games.
Several visual fixes improve game menus and levels
Castlevania: Harmony of Despair now displays both pages of its menu book. The change addresses a specific presentation problem, making the complete menu available rather than leaving one page missing.
Sonic the Hedgehog from 2006 now shows its levels across every version, rather than only on the updated US disc covered by ARMSX3’s bundled patch. Versions without that patch may still show some flicker. The notes identify SPU MMIO Delay Enabled as a possible workaround, but warn that it can substantially reduce performance; the release notes report a frame-rate reduction of about half on an 8 Elite device. The patched US version remains the recommended choice for this game.
Lower Adreno video-memory use during loading
On devices using Adreno graphics, ARMSX3 now uses less video memory for one-pixel-tall textures. Some games create hundreds of these textures while loading, so reducing their memory cost can leave more graphics memory available for the rest of the emulation workload.
The notes do not provide a benchmark or a specific frame-rate measurement for this change. Its documented benefit is reduced video-memory consumption rather than a guaranteed performance increase in every game.
Game-specific settings no longer spill over
Special settings enabled for one game now remain associated with that game. Other titles continue using the settings selected for them, instead of inheriting options that ARMSX3 enabled elsewhere.
This makes per-game tuning safer and easier to manage. A title that needs an unusual compatibility option can receive it without unexpectedly changing the behavior of the rest of the library.
Clearer fallback behavior for custom GPU drivers
ARMSX3 now reports when a custom GPU driver pack cannot load on the device. It displays the message “Custom driver couldn't load. Using the system driver.” and continues with the system driver, so the active driver choice is no longer ambiguous when a custom package fails.
The GPU Driver description also now mentions PanVK packs for Mali devices. Together, these changes make the driver settings easier to interpret across Android hardware using Adreno or Mali graphics, while the fallback message provides a direct indication of what ARMSX3 is actually using.
Project background and release details
ARMSX3 is an Android PlayStation 3 emulator based on the RPCS3 project, with support for ARM64 devices and the recent ARM64 improvements present in the upstream codebase. Android is the host platform, while PlayStation 3 is the emulated system.
Version 1.3.1 is distributed through APK packages named for their target Android SDK and ARM64 compatibility level. The project documentation lists arm64-v8a and armv8.2 support, while the release assets include armv8.2 packages targeting Android SDK levels 30, 33 and 35, plus a legacy armv8.1 SDK 30 package. These labels describe the Android packages and device compatibility, not different PlayStation 3 game editions.
