The Blood of Dawnwalker’s Home Sweet Home quest turns an ordinary family visit into a decidedly less ordinary nightmare prison. Coen is pulled into a recurring vision after locating the Astrologer in the Tower during Who Pulls the Strings, and the dream is designed to make progress feel elusive. It resets him to the same starting point, strips away his usual gear, and asks him to endure encounters that can take much longer than expected when fighting without a familiar build.
The important thing to know is that the first trip through the dream is not the final route out. The loop has to play out far enough for a new interaction to appear on the next pass. Players who treat every reset as a dead end can miss the change that opens the real escape path: an iced-over well in the courtyard.
This walkthrough covers the mandatory scenes, the safest priorities in the unarmed nightmare fights, the exact funeral interaction order, and the movement ability needed at the cliff. The final reward includes the Legendary Astrologer’s Ring, an item that improves Witchcraft-related capabilities and Activation Charge statistics.
When Home Sweet Home begins
Home Sweet Home follows the search for the Astrologer in the Tower as part of Who Pulls the Strings. Finding him launches Coen into a delusion set around his family home. The opening looks peaceful enough, which is precisely the sort of thing a nightmare would like you to believe before producing a monster attack and a schedule packed with hostile spirits.
There is no need to agonize over the first optional task. Speak to Coen’s father, where an option to split logs for firewood is presented. Whether Coen does the wood-splitting or skips it does not change the path through the quest. Speak with the family in the kitchen next to trigger the story scene and the coming attack.
From there, think of the initial run as both a survival exercise and the setup for the later solution. The lack of equipment is a central part of the quest’s tension. Do not expect encounters to melt away at the pace they might outside the nightmare.
First loop: survive the house and reach the church
Once the attack begins, search nearby spaces for healing supplies before pressing down the path. This is not busywork. In a quest that removes standard gear and places several enemies between Coen and the next scene, every available heal is more valuable than usual.
The early combat objective is to save Coen’s mother from a group of spirit skeletons. These fights can be lengthy, so a defensive tempo is sensible. Avoid taking free damage, give yourself room to react, and do not turn a drawn-out encounter into a resource drain by forcing reckless attacks. Patience is much more useful here than an attempt to speedrun an enemy pack with tools Coen no longer has.

After speaking with Esme, continue onward and check containers along the way for anything helpful. The route eventually reaches a large garden occupied by spectres. This battle has a clear priority target: eliminate the red spectre first.
Why the red spectre comes first
Among the garden enemies, the red spectre is the biggest immediate threat because it can drain Coen’s health from range. Leaving it active while dealing with other spectres allows it to keep applying pressure from a distance, making an already gearless encounter significantly more punishing. Focus damage and attention on the red enemy, then clean up the remaining foes.
After the garden fight, speak with Coen’s siblings and head toward the church. The Keeper of Nightmares is waiting there. This boss resembles the adversary encountered earlier outside the Tower, so the fight is not entirely unfamiliar in concept even though the nightmare’s equipment restrictions change the feel of it.
Evasion and counterattacks are the key ideas for the Keeper of Nightmares. The boss becomes vulnerable after its attacks, and a well-timed parry against a flying attack can even knock it out of the air. That creates an opportunity to retaliate without overcommitting. Stay alert for those aerial moments, defend first, and take the opening rather than trying to trade hits.
A church scene follows the battle, and then Coen awakens back at the beginning. This is expected. The quest has not failed, nor is the loop meant to be broken during that first complete circuit.
Second loop: finding the frozen well
Repeat the early route through the household sequence and the battles until the spectres in the garden have been defeated again. The crucial environmental change appears at this point: the courtyard well is now covered in ice.
Interact with the frozen well. It triggers a scene in which Coen speaks with his reflection, providing the pivot away from the repeating family-house sequence. When that scene ends, look for a snow trail beginning at the well and heading toward the southern cliff.
Coen regains Shadowstep for this section. Use Shadowstep to reach the top of the cliff, then make your way through the caves beyond it. The intended destination is a red portal at the end of the cave route. The visual language may be dreamlike, but the route itself is straightforward once the well has activated it: frozen well, snow trail, southern cliff, Shadowstep, caves, red portal.
- Complete the house-and-garden sequence once, including the Keeper of Nightmares encounter.
- Repeat the route until the spectres have been defeated again.
- Inspect the iced-over courtyard well.
- Follow the snow toward the southern cliff.
- Use Shadowstep to reach the cliff top and proceed through the caves.
- Enter the red portal.

Funeral puzzle: the required interaction order
The portal delivers Coen to a funeral, with a priest attempting to continue a sermon. Progress requires interacting with three people in a specific sequence. Getting the order right matters, so do not simply work around the room based on proximity.
- Alin, at the coffin.
- Esme, positioned next to the coffin.
- Coen, sitting alone in the front pew.
In short: Alin, then Esme, then Coen. Once those interactions have been completed in that order, the sermon can move forward. When the opportunity arrives, leave through the back of the funeral area and pursue the boy through another red portal.
The funeral is an easy place to lose time because it asks for a social solution rather than combat or traversal. If the scene appears stalled, return to the order above and verify that each interaction has been completed before attempting to leave.
The meadow clue and the lethal cliff
Beyond the next portal is a forest section that leads to a meadow dominated by a large tree. Several objects in this area can be examined for additional character and story context. These interactions are useful for anyone piecing together the nightmare’s emotional details, but one object is especially necessary for onward progress: the skates.
Inspect the skates before trying to continue. Once they have been examined, the route opens. Follow the indicated path west until Coen reaches the top of a cliff.
This is the quest’s most direct movement warning: do not jump from the cliff. A jump is fatal. Instead, use Clawride to descend. The ability is the intended means of getting down safely, and using it avoids a needless death at the very end of the escape route.
At the cliff, Clawride is not an optional shortcut. It is the required safe descent; jumping kills Coen.
At the bottom, approach Alin and speak with him. That conversation ends the nightmare sequence and returns Coen to the Tower, completing Home Sweet Home at last.
Home Sweet Home reward and quick troubleshooting
Escaping the loop grants the Legendary Astrologer’s Ring. Its benefits include multiple buffs for Witchcraft abilities as well as Activation Charge stats, making it a notable reward for builds that can make use of those systems.
If progress seems blocked, the issue generally falls into one of a few very specific places:
- The loop reset: The first reset after the church is intended. Continue through the repeated route until the garden spectres are down again.
- The courtyard: Check the well after the second relevant pass. It must be frozen before the reflection scene and snow trail become available.
- The funeral: Use Alin at the coffin, Esme beside the coffin, and then Coen in the front pew.
- The meadow: Examine the skates before expecting the path forward to unlock.
- The cliff: Descend using Clawride, never a normal jump.
With those checks in place, Home Sweet Home becomes less a mystery of endless repetition and more a deliberate sequence: endure the first nightmare circuit, identify the change in the second, then follow its portals through the funeral and forest to Alin. The nightmare may take Coen’s equipment, but it does not take away the route home.
