Nintendo’s September 9 Direct was less a neat little calendar update than a full storage-crate dump of Switch 2 plans. The presentation covered immediate releases, winter upgrades, brand-new first-party games, remasters, third-party ports and several projects so distant that their release windows are still doing the vague, misty “2027” thing. The broad message is hard to miss: Switch 2’s pipeline is expanding in every direction, including through a considerable stack of games previously associated with other platforms.
Two newly revealed series entries supplied the biggest internal Nintendo moments. Metroid Ravenous, a 2D Switch 2 adventure due January 28, gives Samus an energy-draining ability tied to defeated enemies. A special edition and Amiibo are planned for the same day. Meanwhile, Kirby and the World Beyond is set for next spring, which places it during Kirby’s 35th anniversary year. The 3D game equips Kirby with a sword and a pointed, Link-like cap, though his signature ability to copy creatures and objects remains intact. It is an image so immediately readable that one suspects the fan art engines are already warming up.
Major Switch 2 releases and ports fill the calendar
Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled for Switch 2 on December 4, one of the presentation’s most substantial third-party confirmations. The platform will also receive Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the concluding part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, on April 8, 2027—the same date planned for other platforms. Before that, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion became available for Switch 2 on September 9.
A few incoming games will bring a lot of established content with them. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is planned for some point in 2027 with all DLC included. Remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 arrive October 16; Resident Evil 2 will be a deluxe edition with its DLC, while Resident Evil 4 also includes DLC. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves follows on October 22, and Stellar Blade reaches Switch 2 on November 5.
There are more familiar names on the way. The Crew Motorfest is dated for October 8, while House Flipper 2 and It Takes Two are both set for October 15. The Switch 2 version of 007 First Light remains aimed at 2026 without a specific date. Ubisoft will also bring Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon to the machine in spring 2027. An encore edition of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is expected November 5, and Bluey’s Happy Snaps launches for Switch and Switch 2 on October 15.
Atlus also confirmed Switch 2 versions of Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6. Persona 4 Revival, a remake of Persona 4 Golden, has a May 20 Switch 2 release date, following its PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC arrival by a few months. Persona 6 was confirmed for the platform, but no timing was attached.
Nintendo catalog upgrades bring new modes, features and caveats
Several existing Nintendo games are receiving Switch 2 editions or updates, with different approaches to ownership. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition arrives February 25, promising enhanced visuals and frame rates, more enemies on screen, every prior DLC pack and an additional higher-difficulty setting. Current Switch owners can move their save data over and receive a discount, but the upgrade will not be free.
Pikmin 4 gets its Switch 2 edition on November 12, with an upgrade option for existing owners. Its additions include voice commands via the system microphone and Dandori Academy, a treasure-collection challenge mode. Dandori Academy has three difficulty levels, weekly attempts limited to one per player and score comparisons with friends and other players. That is an unusually stern little academic institution: cram hard, because there is no retake until next week.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 reaches Switch 2 on December 3, accompanied by an upgrade pack for current owners. Its new Heroes’ Vault mode is described as a wave-based survival roguelike, and it adds Shimmer, a hero able to anticipate opponents’ next moves. For a closer look at why that character matters to fans following the game’s lingering mysteries, see our coverage of Shimmer’s reveal and the Dirk theory.
On September 29, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered will arrive as a free release for owners of the original Switch version. The Switch 2 release supports mouse and motion controls, gyro aiming and touchscreen input. Also on September 29, Star Fox receives a Battle Mode update with four-player split-screen and three stages. Star Fox Adventures, the GameCube title, joins the Nintendo Switch Online library on September 9.
Mario Kart World also received an update on September 9, adding fresh versions of 10 tracks from the original Super Mario Kart and two more Knockout Tour routes. Ghost Valley 1 is among the revived courses, shortcut included. Elsewhere, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort comes to Switch 2 on October 22 with 12 sports, a Wuhu Island exploration mode using planes, skateboards and jetskis, plus the offline single-player Island Crown mode.
New adventures, puzzles and the stranger corners of the lineup
The Direct had no shortage of projects beyond the headliners. Level-5’s Professor Layton and the New World of Steam comes to both Switch generations December 10 and is said to contain the largest puzzle selection in the series. Each solved puzzle exposes further story information. The developer also confirmed that Yo-kai Watch 2: Haunted Domain is in development, although it withheld other details.
Onyx: The Dark Grip, from Bloober Team, is a Switch 2-exclusive horror game due next year. It takes place in a foggy town and is specifically designated as handheld-only. Its touch controls are used for environmental interaction and reading characters’ minds, while tilting the console helps fend off certain dangers. That makes it one of the most unusual hardware-specific concepts shown: a horror game that seems determined to ensure the dock stays out of the haunted house.
Ghost Town Games’ Stage Fright is another 2027-bound title for Switch and Switch 2. The coming-of-age co-op game follows three characters investigating a ghost town, using local or online play to tackle escape-room-style puzzles and obstacles. Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale, a rhythm-puzzle coming-of-age game, is also headed to Switch 2 next year. Eternal Anima, a time-travel JRPG about revisiting mysterious memories and gaining the powers of past heroes, is due March 4.
Danganronpa 2x2 launches January 14 on Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It combines a remake of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair with a new scenario that changes which characters become victims and killers. On February 16, Switch and Switch 2 receive both the RPG card game Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX and Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, a 3D remake of the 1995 game. SNK’s Metal Slug Ultimate Collection, featuring 10 Metal Slug games and online co-op, is scheduled for both Nintendo platforms next year.
Kirby collectibles, Pokémon accessories and a notable disclosure
For Pokémon Pokopia, the second expansion later this year adds more Pokémon and wearable accessories, including sunglasses, ribbons and bowties. The final Kirby Air Riders Amiibo—Sword Kirby & Dragoon and Noir Dedede & Hydra—are due November 12. Nintendo additionally teased a future event that will alter the game’s menu and paddock, with further information still to come.
Cairn, the survival climbing game, arrives in early 2027, while a demo is available now. Meccha Chameleon, the multiplayer hide-and-seek game built around disguising painted characters within the scenery, launched on Switch 2 September 9 after selling more than 20 million copies in roughly two months on Steam following its June debut.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis remains set for February 12 on Switch 2 and other platforms. The remake of Lara Croft’s original adventure previously drew attention for developers’ use of generative AI. Its Steam disclosure states that AI-assisted assets were replaced or refined by humans to preserve the development team’s intended creative and artistic direction. For more on its announced date and the game’s updated toolkit, read our Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis overview.
Finally, Mega Man: Dual Override is due next spring and makes shield-bearing Proto Man playable; Mega Man and Proto Man Amiibo arrive alongside it. Taken together, the Direct’s lineup makes Switch 2 look less like a console waiting for its next wave and more like one already trying to organize a wildly overbooked guest list. Metroid and Kirby may have owned the closing stretch, but there was room for villagers in bowties, a handheld-only nightmare and enough remasters to make a calendar feel like an endurance sport.
