What’s Stranger Than Heaven about?
Stranger Than Heaven is a single-player narrative adventure that spans five eras and five Japanese cities, following Makoto Daito as he searches for belonging across a changing country. Beginning in 1915, the story moves through Kokura, Kure, Osaka, Atami, and Shinjuku, presenting each setting as a distinct period in Japan’s cultural and social evolution.
The journey combines close-quarters fighting with role-playing, puzzle, and adventure elements. Makoto’s path also leads into music and show business after a mentor recognizes his talent, allowing him to grow from an aspiring singer into a performer and producer. Alongside its dramatic story, the game depicts period-specific entertainment, including gambling, drinking, and theatrical performance, while charting the influence of changing cultural trends across several decades.
