What’s Metro 2039 about?
Metro 2039 is a single-player shooter and adventure set in post-apocalyptic Moscow, where nuclear war survivors have spent twenty-five years fighting for control of the Metro tunnels beneath the poisoned city. The underground population is now united under Hunter, a fanatical Spartan whose Novoreich regime maintains order through propaganda, fear, and preparations for a new war on the surface.
The story follows the reclusive Stranger, whose violent waking nightmares and troubled past draw him out of exile and back toward the Metro. His journey crosses the shattered ruins of Moscow and combines exploration, survival, combat, and stealth. The setting presents a world that is both hauntingly beautiful and deadly, with conflict over the Metro’s future intertwined with the threat waiting beyond the city.
