An update focused on navigation
NX Torrent Player MOD, a homebrew application for Nintendo Switch systems running custom firmware, reaches version 0.0.8 with changes aimed at reducing waiting times and making its interface easier to manage. The project brings together Stremio catalogs, media playback, streaming sources, BitTorrent transfers, and downloads to the microSD card.
Released on September 15, 2026, the update is available as NX-torrent-player.nro. Its most noticeable change concerns how the application handles network requests when you move from a catalog to a movie or series detail page. It also adds tools for organizing the home screen, refreshing add-ons, and using the interface in different languages.
Detail pages take priority when you open them
When you open a movie or series, the application cancels pending requests and artwork downloads belonging to the main catalog. Network and processing resources can then focus on displaying the selected title’s poster, name, synopsis, and metadata first.
The logo and header background load at a lower priority, while add-on and playback-source queries are processed afterward. This ordering is intended to keep carousel images from competing with the information you have just requested.
When you return to the catalog, NX Torrent Player MOD automatically resumes or refreshes its loading. The aim is to avoid unnecessary reloads and make navigation between the home screen and individual titles more continuous.
Episode thumbnails get a fix
Version 0.0.8 fixes an issue that could leave a series’ episode thumbnails blank. The image manager also changes its priorities, requesting images for the active season and currently visible episodes first.
Switching seasons cancels requests that are no longer relevant. This reduces work on images you are no longer viewing and helps the visible thumbnails appear sooner, particularly in shows with several seasons or long episode lists.
A new tab for sorting and hiding catalogs
Options now includes a Catalogs tab. It lists Cinemeta catalogs, including Popular Movies, Popular Series, Featured Movies, and Featured Series, alongside catalogs provided by the Stremio add-ons installed on your account.
You can show or hide each catalog and change its position. In handheld mode, on-screen up and down controls let you move a row with your fingers. Tapping its Visible or Hidden label toggles that setting without opening another menu.
Physical controls offer the same functions: A changes the selected catalog’s visibility, X moves it up, and Y moves it down. An option at the bottom of the list restores the default order and visibility settings together.
Changes use a deferred refresh. Instead of rebuilding the screen after every adjustment, the application groups your edits and applies them when you leave Options. According to the release notes, this approach prevents crashes when rearranging catalogs and reduces the risk of the interface freezing during editing.
Preferences are saved in config.json, so the order and visibility settings survive console restarts. The new tab gives you a practical way to keep the home screen focused on the sources you actually use.
Refresh account add-ons manually
The Account screen adds a Sync Add-ons button beside the sign-out control. It checks Stremio’s servers again for installed add-ons after you have added or changed them on another device, such as a computer, phone, or web browser.
The operation clears the local add-on cache, updates the count, refreshes the visible list, and marks catalogs for synchronization with the home screen. You therefore do not need to restart the application or sign out to reflect changes made away from your Switch.
More consistent language support
The update revises interface text in Latin American Spanish, European Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, French, and English. Among the more visible fixes are prompts in the bottom bar: labels such as Accept, Back, and Exit no longer remain in English when another language is selected.
Settings text, interface scaling, buffered-download limits, release notes, credits, colors, and palettes have also been reviewed. Stremio genre and filter names receive translations without changing the values required by the service’s API.
The changes extend to playback and download screens. Speed messages, buffer status, episode buttons, track selection, file progress, and torrent states are included in the translation system. Downloaded, Required, Downloading, and Checking are among the updated status labels.
Color palette names—including purple, blue, turquoise, green, orange, red, and pink—are covered too. These labels update dynamically when you change the language instead of retaining their previous text.
What NX Torrent Player MOD offers on Switch
NX Torrent Player MOD is designed to run as homebrew on a Nintendo Switch using Atmosphère. This release is not a Windows or Android player: its distributed NRO file is intended for the console’s homebrew environment.
The project acts as a Stremio client, organizing catalogs, your library, items you have started watching, and sources supplied by add-ons. Its documented features also include playback of local microSD files, an offline download queue, and support for HTTP sources, Debrid services, and BitTorrent transfers.
Media playback uses an mpv-based engine, with controls for audio, subtitles, playback speed, seeking, and track selection. The interface supports both controller and touchscreen input. The Local screen lets you browse microSD folders and open video formats supported by the player.
The download system can keep movies or episodes on the card for later offline playback. It displays download and verification states and organizes tasks through a queue. The availability and behavior of individual sources depend on the add-ons, services, and connections used by your account.
