Save data now persists to disk

KytyPS5 now persists SaveDataMemory2 save data to disk. The release notes identify this as a fix for Astro Bot progress not being saved, giving that data a way to remain available after the current emulator session.

The change is specifically tied to SaveDataMemory2 and Astro Bot in the release notes. It should therefore be viewed as a targeted save-data fix rather than a guarantee of universal save support across all games.

Windows Unicode paths are fixed

The newest build fixes Unicode paths on Windows. This improves handling for file and folder locations that contain accented letters or characters from non-Latin writing systems.

The release notes do not connect this change to graphics performance, game compatibility, or save behavior. Its documented focus is Windows path handling.

Changes across the included builds

This update combines three development builds released on September 19, 2026. KytyPS5-2026-09-19-cfbaee0 added persistence for SaveDataMemory2 data. KytyPS5-2026-09-19-82b2711 has no detailed changes listed in its release notes. The newest build, KytyPS5-2026-09-19-8cecaf4, added the Windows Unicode-path fix.

The newest release is tagged KytyPS5-2026-09-19-8cecaf4 and includes prebuilt archives for Windows x64, Linux x86_64, and macOS x86_64. On Apple Silicon, the macOS build runs under Rosetta 2, with Vulkan support provided by MoltenVK.

What KytyPS5 does

KytyPS5 is a free, open-source PlayStation 5 emulator for desktop platforms. Windows is its primary platform, Linux builds are available, and macOS support is experimental. The emulator targets the PS5’s AMD RDNA 2-based graphics architecture through a Vulkan 1.3 renderer.

The project remains in early development. It can boot 2D games and a selection of 3D titles, including games built with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, Unity, and custom engines. Compatibility remains limited, with the project warning that crashes, graphical glitches, poor performance, and significant behavior changes between builds are possible.

KytyPS5 does not distribute games or copyrighted system software. Users must provide legally obtained game files. The project is not affiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment or PlayStation.

Using the new build

The release archives target Windows x64, Linux x86_64, and macOS x86_64. The documented system requirements include a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU with current drivers on Windows and Linux. On macOS, the emulator runs under Rosetta 2 on Apple Silicon and uses MoltenVK for Vulkan support.

The graphical launcher can search configured game folders recursively for directories containing eboot.bin. After a game folder is added in global settings, detected games appear in the launcher’s game list. The emulator also supports starting a legally obtained game directory or ELF file directly through its command-line interface.

The new save-data behavior is best understood as a targeted fix. The release notes specifically identify Astro Bot progress and SaveDataMemory2 persistence, while compatibility and save behavior can still vary by game and platform.
