FTP file access for supported PlayStation consoles
ftpsrv is an FTP server designed to run on jailbroken PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 systems with an ELF loader. The project’s first release is version 1, published on October 19, 2026, and has no listed downloadable assets or detailed release notes.
The server listens on port 2121, allowing an FTP client on the network to connect to the console. The project lists gFTP, FileZilla, curl and Thunar among the client software tested with ftpsrv, giving users several ways to browse, transfer and retrieve files.
Console-specific commands
Alongside standard FTP operations, ftpsrv supports commands intended for the PlayStation environment. KILL stops the FTP server, while MTRW remounts the /system and /system_ex locations with write permissions.
The SELF command controls on-the-fly decryption of SELF files, and this feature is enabled by default. The setting applies per connection, so clients can enable or disable it independently for each FTP session. This can let a client retrieve a decrypted ELF representation when the requested file is a supported SELF file rather than downloading its encrypted form.
The README identifies limitations around this feature. On some PS5 firmware versions below 4, a kernel bug can cause reads from certain SELF files to stall. SELF files located at the filesystem root, such as /SceSysAvControl.elf, also cannot be decrypted directly; the documented workaround is to copy the encrypted file to /data/ first and then download it from that location.
PS5 installation and launch background
The project documents an installation option for PS5 systems. When websrv is running, an installed copy can appear as an item in the standard Sony shell interface and can then be launched from there. The documented setup assumes a jailbroken console and an ELF loader; it is not a general FTP server installation for an unmodified PlayStation.
The README also describes PS4 and PS5 payload builds, as well as a GNU/Linux build. Those are development and deployment details rather than requirements for using a packaged console payload. The release itself does not list packaged assets, so no specific downloadable build variants are identified here.
What this release establishes
Because version 1 contains no detailed release notes, there are no specific fixes, performance changes or newly added features to attribute to this build beyond the project’s documented functionality. The release establishes the available project version, while the README provides the operational context: FTP access on port 2121, support for common FTP clients, PlayStation-specific commands and per-connection SELF decryption controls.
ftpsrv is licensed under the GPLv3 or later.
