Game-specific stability fixes

ARMSX3 1.6.3 is available for Android with fixes focused on three PlayStation 3 games. Yakuza: Dead Souls should no longer freeze or crash when running through the emulator. The project credits YHVH on Discord with testing that fix.

Journey no longer freezes at the Graveyard. For this game, ARMSX3 now disables SPU anti-aliasing, also known as MLAA, by default and enables its Disable MLAA Patch setting automatically. That per-game configuration avoids requiring users to change the option manually.

Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise also receives a crash fix. The release notes additionally report faster operation in heavier scenes, although no performance measurements are provided.

A livelier XMB Mode

XMB Mode now includes hundreds of sparkles moving across the wave background in the PlayStation 3 interface’s characteristic colors. Devices and controllers with motion capabilities can influence the effect: moving a compatible controller left or right moves the sparkles as well.

This feature belongs to ARMSX3’s own XMB-style interface. It is separate from Boot XMB, which uses the PS3 system software installed from the user’s own firmware. XMB Mode instead recreates the interface using relevant files from that firmware installation, including its visual and audio assets.

More useful loading and shader feedback

The shader compilation popup now identifies the variant being built or linked while compilation is in progress. That gives users more useful feedback during waits than a progress display without a description of the current task.

Games and saves containing a damaged PARAM.SFO can now load safely. PARAM.SFO stores metadata associated with PS3 games and saves, so this change can help the emulator handle affected data instead of failing during loading.

Android packages and project background

ARMSX3 1.6.3 was published on November 5, 2026. The release provides Android APKs for armv8.2 devices targeting SDK 30, SDK 33 and SDK 35, plus a legacy armv8.1 package targeting SDK 30. The available package variants are intended for different Android device and platform combinations; the release notes do not specify a device list for each one.

ARMSX3 is an Android emulator based on the upstream RPCS3 codebase, including recent ARM64 improvements. Its purpose is to run PlayStation 3 software on supported Android hardware, while the Android device remains the host platform and the PlayStation 3 is the emulated console. The release notes include captures made on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Snapdragon 8 Elite and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 hardware, but those captures are not a guarantee of identical compatibility or performance on other devices.

Using ARMSX3 requires the user’s own PS3 firmware, which is not bundled with the application. The project does not include PS3 games, firmware or Sony-owned files. Firmware installation provides the console system files needed for features such as Boot XMB, while XMB Mode uses ARMSX3’s separate interface.

The project’s README documents Android arm64-v8a and armv8.2 support. The listed SDK, NDK, CMake and JDK details apply to building ARMSX3 from source, not to ordinary use of the supplied APK packages.
