Metal Gear Solid 4 gets past its Act 1 freeze
ARMSX3 1.4.2 addresses a compatibility problem in Metal Gear Solid 4: the game now plays without freezing at the beginning of Act 1. The release notes apply the change to both the disc and PSN versions.
ARMSX3 is an Android project based on RPCS3, with ARM64 improvements from the upstream codebase. This release specifically documents a Metal Gear Solid 4 fix rather than a general compatibility improvement for the wider PlayStation 3 library.
Smaller APKs and Mali GPU support
The Android application package is about 10 MB smaller in version 1.4.2. The release includes armv8.2 APK variants targeting Android SDK levels 30, 33 and 35, along with a legacy armv8.1 package targeting SDK level 30. The listed files range from approximately 82.6 MB to 82.7 MB, depending on the variant.
The animated wave background in the game library now runs on Mali GPUs. This change concerns the emulator’s library interface, not documented game rendering performance, and brings that visual feature to supported Android devices with Mali graphics hardware.
What ARMSX3 does
ARMSX3 is a PlayStation 3 emulator for Android devices, built around an ARM64-focused version of RPCS3. The emulated system is the PlayStation 3, while the host platform is Android.
Running ARMSX3 requires PlayStation 3 firmware, which the project does not include. The release notes do not provide broader performance figures or a complete compatibility list, so the documented Metal Gear Solid 4 change should not be treated as a guarantee for every game or Android device.
ARMSX3 1.4.2 availability
Version 1.4.2 was published on October 28, 2026. It is available as separate Android APK builds for armv8.2 targets and a legacy armv8.1 target, with packages covering the listed Android SDK levels.
For Metal Gear Solid 4 users, the Act 1 freeze fix is the main reason to update. The smaller package and Mali-compatible library animation add separate Android-side improvements without changing ARMSX3’s role as a PlayStation 3 emulator.
