Lower activity when paused or hidden
ARMSX3 1.1.1 is an Android build of the ARMSX3 PlayStation 3 emulator project, which is based on RPCS3. Published on October 11, 2026, this release focuses on reducing work performed while a game is paused, the app is in the background or the device is asleep with the app open.
Previously, a paused game could leave the emulator checking for activity about 2,000 times per second while the library background continued animating out of sight. ARMSX3 now checks only a few times per second in that state and stops drawing the library background until the app returns. The project reports that, on an Odin 3 with a paused game and the screen locked, activity fell from about 2,000 checks per second to 63.
Battery-focused pause behavior
These changes are intended to reduce battery drain during interruptions and sleep. Pausing a game or leaving ARMSX3 out of sight no longer keeps the same level of background checking and visual rendering active.
Motion controls now turn off while a game is paused or the app is out of sight. They turn back on when the game resumes, preventing motion-control processing from continuing during those inactive states.
Reduced background services
Discord activity is also reduced while ARMSX3 is in the background. The release changes its check-in frequency from twenty times per second to once per second.
The Android build no longer runs the GDB debug server. The release notes identify this as an unnecessary service on phones and note that it previously kept a network port open on the device.
Available Android packages
ARMSX3 1.1.1 provides four APK variants: ARMSX3-1.1.1-a11-armv8.2-sdk30.apk, ARMSX3-1.1.1-a13-armv8.2-sdk33.apk, ARMSX3-1.1.1-a15-armv8.2-sdk35.apk and ARMSX3-1.1.1-legacy-armv8.1-sdk30.apk. Their filenames identify different Android SDK and ARM targets, so the appropriate package depends on the device.
The project supports ARM64 Android targets, including arm64-v8a and ARMv8.2. Running ARMSX3 requires PlayStation 3 firmware, which is not included.
Project background
ARMSX3 uses upstream RPCS3 code, including recent ARM64 improvements, for its Android emulator core. The project brings PlayStation 3 emulation to compatible Android hardware, while the documented work in version 1.1.1 centers on lifecycle handling, battery use and background services.
The release notes do not list new game compatibility information, emulation fixes or performance results.
