IntroDB brings streaming-style episode controls

NX Torrent Player MOD 0.0.9 adds integration with IntroDB, a community database of timing markers for intros, recaps and end credits. The app checks these markers through asynchronous network requests, allowing playback to continue while the data is retrieved. An in-memory cache also prevents repeated requests when content is resumed.

When playback reaches a detected intro or recap, the new on-screen skip card offers an “(A) Skip intro” or “(A) Skip recap” action. Switch touchscreen users can tap the card instead. After a skip, the player displays a confirmation message, and an Auto-skip option can remove intros without requiring a button press.

IntroDB timing also controls the player’s “Next episode” prompt. Instead of relying on a fixed timer, the prompt can appear when the episode’s outro begins according to the available timing data. IntroDB controls are available in the playback settings, where users can enable or disable timing lookups and automatic intro skipping.

A broad stability pass targets crashes and stale interface state

Version 0.0.9 applies several fixes aimed at Nintendo Switch-specific failures during network activity, catalogue refreshes and screen changes. Network transfers now use a libcurl setting that prevents signal handling from colliding with worker threads during DNS timeouts. The project identifies this as a fix for forced closures that could occur while downloads or artwork requests were active.

Focus handling has been revised before lists and catalogue views are cleared or rebuilt. This applies to the main catalogue, catalogue ordering in Options, downloads and the local file browser. Lifecycle checks now cancel queued work when views become invalid, reducing the risk of callbacks touching interface elements that have already been destroyed.

The Account screen now discards asynchronous addon-sync callbacks when the user leaves the view. Empty states are also handled more safely when every catalogue is hidden or there is no internet connection, so the navigation interface can present an informative state instead of following an invalid pointer. Episode and season selection gains stricter bounds checks for malformed metadata.

Posters and loading states recover more reliably

The update reworks the image request queue to support multiple active listeners for the same artwork. This fixes a problem in which hiding and restoring a catalogue, or changing catalogue order, could leave newly created movie and series cards without posters when an earlier request was already in progress.

The home screen’s loading behavior has also been corrected. The loading indicator now remains visible while catalogues are still being retrieved, rather than prematurely showing an empty-catalogue message. Once the data is ready, stale empty-state labels are removed before the catalogue cards are drawn.

Together, these changes make catalogue management less disruptive: reorganizing or restoring sections no longer depends on whether an earlier artwork callback arrives at the right time, and a slow network response is less likely to leave the home screen displaying an outdated status.

What the Switch player provides

NX Torrent Player MOD is a Nintendo Switch homebrew multimedia client based on the original NX Torrent Player project. Its documented feature set combines Stremio account and catalogue synchronization, torrent and Debrid stream playback, local MicroSD video playback, and background downloads. It supports controller and touchscreen navigation, playback controls, subtitle and audio track selection, playback-speed adjustment and a local file browser.

The project also documents hardware-accelerated playback through the Switch’s Tegra X1 platform, support for common video containers and a dedicated player for local files and completed downloads. Streaming sources can include BitTorrent and supported Debrid services, while the download manager can save content to the MicroSD card for offline playback. These capabilities depend on the user’s services, network connection and available content sources.

This is software for Nintendo Switch running custom firmware, not a Windows, macOS or Linux media player. The README specifies launching it through Homebrew Menu in Title Override mode, by holding R while opening an installed game; it warns that launching from the Album applet leaves less memory available for demanding video and download tasks. The release package contains the NX-torrent-player.nro file for this homebrew setup.
