DualSense lighting can now be configured in the launcher
The latest KytyPS5 build adds launcher controls for setting and previewing the lightbar color on a DualSense controller. Users can see the selected color in the launcher before running a game.
Cumulative changes across the included builds
The update combines several releases published on September 29, 2026. The newest build, KytyPS5-2026-09-29-05057c9, contains the DualSense lightbar work. It follows KytyPS5-2026-09-29-af4edc2, which added explanations for why individual GPUs were rejected during device selection. These messages provide more context when a graphics device is not accepted.
KytyPS5-2026-09-29-9d4da48 also stripped debug symbols from the Linux launcher. The release notes provide no further specific user-facing details for the other earlier builds in this sequence.
What KytyPS5 does
KytyPS5 is a free, open-source PlayStation 5 emulator for Windows and Linux, with experimental support for macOS. The emulated system is the PlayStation 5; the supplied packages target desktop host operating systems rather than a modified console. The project is based on a heavily modified version of Kyty and remains in active development.
The emulator can boot 2D games and a selection of 3D games, including software made with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, Unity, and custom engines. Compatibility, stability, and performance can vary between versions, and crashes or graphical glitches may occur. Windows and Linux are the primary platforms receiving the most testing, while macOS support is experimental.
Host platforms and graphics requirements
The available packages target Windows x64, Linux x86_64, and macOS x86_64. The macOS build runs through Rosetta 2 on Apple Silicon, with Vulkan supplied through MoltenVK. The project lists a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU and current graphics drivers among its system requirements; on macOS, MoltenVK provides the Vulkan implementation.
The new GPU rejection messages add useful context during device selection by showing why a candidate was not accepted. The project also recommends updating the graphics driver before investigating rendering problems.
