A faster Ghostship experience on PS Vita
Ghostship Vita v1.3 is a PS Vita port of Ghostship v2.0.0, with some improvements from Ghostship’s development branch. Released on October 9, 2026, this update focuses on rendering performance, the vitaGL graphics library, and stability.
The main change is a multithreaded renderer. According to the release notes, it provides performance improvements of up to 35% across the game. The exact result may differ between systems and situations, but the change is intended to let rendering work run across multiple threads rather than relying on a single rendering path.
What changed in version 1.3
The port now uses the latest vitaGL commit. Recent changes to that library invalidate the shader cache, so the first play sessions may include stutters while new shaders are compiled. This is an expected consequence of rebuilding the shader cache after the update.
Version 1.3 fixes a crash that could occur with achievements enabled when certain new achievements were unlocked. It also fixes a separate crash that could occur after idling in the pause menu for more than 10 minutes. These changes improve stability during achievement progression and extended pauses.
What Ghostship Vita is
Ghostship Vita brings Ghostship to Sony’s PS Vita. Ghostship requires the player to provide supported game data rather than including copyrighted assets in the project package.
The documented setup uses the PC release of Ghostship v2.0.0 to generate an sm64.o2r file. The Vita package also provides ghostship.zip, whose contents are used together with sm64.o2r and ghostship.o2r in the port’s data directory. The release includes Ghostship.vpk for the Vita installation and the ZIP archive for the additional data files.
The project lists the US and JP versions as supported source releases. The source data must be in Z64 format before it is used to generate the required files. These source-data requirements are separate from the files included in the Ghostship Vita release.
Availability and practical notes
The release is tagged v.1.3 and includes Ghostship.vpk and ghostship.zip. The project’s documented setup places the generated files and ghostship.o2r in ux0:data/ghostship before installing the VPK.
Because the vitaGL update invalidates the shader cache, players may notice stutters during initial sessions while replacement shaders are compiled. The release notes do not mention a way to avoid this rebuild.
Ghostship Vita is separate from Ghostship releases for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. Those platforms appear in the project’s broader documentation and data-generation workflow; v.1.3 is the PS Vita port.
