Faster installation and smoother cover browsing

PCSX AwO version 0.5.1 moves its disc-cover artwork into a PSARC archive. The release notes say this makes installing the emulator significantly faster and removes stutters that could occur while scrolling through discs in the game selector.

The change improves the browsing experience around PCSX AwO’s 3D cover-based interface. The emulator supports multidisc games, so smoother scrolling can be useful when navigating a larger PlayStation collection.

Corrected controls and custom game paths

The update fixes an inversion affecting L2 and R2 input. On PSVita, the project maps the top-left and top-right rear touch areas to L2 and R2 respectively.

PCSX AwO also adds support for custom game paths. Its standard games directory is ux0:data/pcsx-awo/roms, but users can now organize game files in other locations. Button hints in the game selector and pause menu have been aligned as well, making the bottom-bar prompts easier to read.

Settings and memory-card options per game

Version 0.5.1 saves settings on a per-game basis. Configurations selected for one title can remain separate from those used by another, reducing the need to change options whenever switching games.

A new option also controls how memory cards are handled for each game. The release notes do not list the available modes, but the per-game setting provides more independent control over save handling between titles.

Renderer resources and Ehrgeiz stability

The release removes the vitaGL splash screen shown at startup and increases the memory pool available to vitaGL during execution. These changes adjust startup presentation and the resources available while the emulator is running.

PCSX AwO also adds a workaround for sporadic GPU crashes with Ehrgeiz. This is a title-specific stability fix, not a general compatibility guarantee for all games.

What PCSX AwO does

PCSX AwO is a PSVita-focused fork of PCSX ReARMed for emulating PlayStation software. It includes a ReARMed NEON software rasterizer and a hardware-accelerated High Octane renderer derived from the Crash Team Racing: High Octane project.

The software rasterizer supports optional 2x internal resolution. The High Octane renderer supports native Vita internal resolution, 4x multisampling and an unstretched 16:9 aspect ratio. Experimental frame generation is available with that renderer for games that natively run at 25 or 30 frames per second.

Supported game formats include BIN/CUE, ISO, IMG, CHD, PBP, M3U and EXE. Other features include multidisc support, turbo CD and CD read-ahead options, post-processing effects such as CRT, greyscale, sepia, negative, sharp bilinear and LCD 3x, plus custom bubble generation.

On PSVita and PSTV, the project supports up to four controllers through the MinivitaTV plugin. The optional BIOS directory is ux0:/data/pcsx-awo/bios.

Version availability

PCSX AwO v.0.5.1 was published on October 14, 2026. The release includes a VPK package and a ZIP archive. Its documented changes cover installation and browsing responsiveness, input mapping, game-file organization, per-game configuration, renderer resources and a targeted GPU-crash workaround.
