About the movie
Characters: several “astronauts of the underworld” explore subterranean environments; situation: the documentary records journeys into the hidden world beneath our feet; central conflict: these underworlds compel a rethinking of how we live on Earth’s fragile surface. Beginning beneath the shallow soil of an old ash tree, the film moves through ancient sacred caves, flooded storm drains, melting glaciers and underwater burial chambers. It culminates in a deep underground laboratory built to probe the mysteries of the Universe, framing the beneath as a realm of knowledge and wonder rather than darkness.
