About the movie
Characters: Mona Friedman (Julianne Moore), a shy housewife, and the community theater’s domineering director (Paul Giamatti). Mona is cast in a small bit at a local theater and becomes a zealous method actor determined to preserve the artistic integrity of her marginal role. Her escalating devotion to the part puts her in direct conflict with the director as she pursues increasingly extreme tactics to defend the role.
