About the movie
Characters are Joe Michaels, his wealthy friend, and Joe’s family; the situation is that Joe, newly made redundant, repeatedly reads his friend’s extravagant annual Christmas letter and feels humiliated; the central conflict is his determination to match that public image even at personal cost. To prove himself, Joe cashes out his 401(k) and spends the year arranging lavish family events and experiences aimed solely at creating a rival Christmas letter that will outshine his friend’s.
