About the movie
In early 17th-century Germany a scarred, modest soldier arrives at an isolated Protestant village claiming to be the heir to a long-abandoned farm and produces a document to support his claim. He proves hardworking and God-fearing, gradually overcoming villagers’ doubts and becoming part of the community. The central conflict is that this acceptance is based on a deliberate deception: the supposed man is actually a woman who has taken on a male identity to swindle the village.
