About the movie
Characters include Orpheus and his bride Eurydice, and a snake whose bite kills her on their wedding day; the central conflict is Orpheus’s attempt to retrieve Eurydice from the Underworld. The film is Virgilio Villoresi’s expressionistic adaptation of Dino Buzzati’s 1969 Poema a fumetti, which was Italy’s first graphic novel. Villoresi reimagines the myth in a modern, reality-bending visual style: a kaleidoscopic journey across time and place that contemplates art, love, mystery, eroticism, melancholy, life and death.
