About the movie
Characters: nine children and a dog (including James) read Alison Lester’s book and are transported to the titular Magic Beach; the central conflict is their boundless animated imaginings versus the return to ordinary life. On the beach they explore caves, poke around rock pools, build and destroy giant sandcastles in terrible wars, and converse with sea creatures; James dives with horses, pirates smuggle treasure, and dreamtime serpents fly and shed their scales. The children awaken back in real life, carrying the beach’s memories with them.
