About the movie
Characters: Elvis (Max Minghella), an unlicensed mortician tied to his family’s rural Texas funeral home and devoted to his eccentric, ailing father (Joe Manegna); Annabelle (Blake Lively), a beauty queen being pushed toward show business by her ambitious mother (Mary Steenburgen) and a creepy step‑father (Keith Carradine). Situation and central conflict: Elvis’s sense of family duty prevents him from following his own dreams while Annabelle faces intense career pressure. The film frames their growing connection against a once‑splendid American Gothic setting, with lush cinematography and a haunting soundtrack.
