About the movie
Characters: the Khachaturian family (three generations, led by their matriarch), a U.S. Marine, and a New Yorker journalist. Situation: early in the Iraq War the family is displaced by American military action, takes refuge with relatives, then returns across the city and becomes trapped in a firefight in Baghdad. Central conflict: one Marine’s split-second decision during the battle devastates the family; years later the Marine, haunted by his service and assisted by the journalist, seeks to reconcile with the Khachaturian matriarch and surviving relatives.
